Welcome to third grade at Belmont Elementary! My name is Katie Coleman and I am very excited to be your child’s teacher for the 200-2010 school year. This will be my third year as a third grade teacher here at Belmont.
I attended Shippensburg University in central Pennsylvania, where I received my bachelor’s degree in elementary education with a minor in reading. Although I have spent some time in PA, I grew up in the northern Virginia area, and even attended some Prince William County schools as a student. I am very excited to be back as a teacher!
Third grade is an especially exciting year. We get to study very interesting topics including multiplication and division, famous Americans, and animal adaptations. At the end of the year, we get to show just how much we have learned by taking the Virginia Standards of Learning tests. We are going to work very hard this year to prepare for these tests, but we will also have a lot of fun in the process!
I believe that every child genuinely wants to learn, and it is my job to figure out how your child learns best. Though we all learn differently, I believe that students are able to learn the most by collaborating with their peers. Students will work together this year to solve problems and discover new information in all subjects, especially math and reading.
In the same way that the students will be working together, I am looking forward to working with you to ensure your child’s success. I believe that the parent-teacher relationship plays a vital role in determining how successful a student will be. Please do not hesitate to e-mail (colemaka@pwcs.edu) or call (703-494-4945) with any questions or concerns you may have. I look forward to working with you and your child this school year!
